Your first ranger stories.
I wanna know how you guys got your first (or farthest back you can remember) ranger. did you snag it from a dealer? find it on the side of the road? lets hear some good ones.
Actually bought mine from my older brother back in high school for a winter vehicle so I didn't have to drive my mustang in the snow anymore. And now, it transformed into my best lookin ride after a lot of hard work and some money. But my first memory of the truck was when the block busted going down the highway at about 60mph. Needless to say, it scared the hell out of me and my brother lol.
Bought it from the original owner who wanted a bigger vehicle. He hadn't even put a for sale sign on it yet. Just happened to ask him at the right time. Paid $1400 for it.
my parents gave me my first ranger when i was in high school, still kinda miss that truck
I got mine in high school, i was driving around a junky old style cavalier. my father gave me an ultimatum, come up with half and you can have whatever the heck you want. so i found mine from a guy down the street, bought to drive to work then he upgraded. that was three years ago.
Had a 200? pontiac grand am. Had some minor body damage and busted radiator support from hitting a blown tire on the highway. Also needed new tires.
Took it in for an oil change. They gave me an estimate on the repair costs for the vehicle and new tires........so I searched the lot, saw the ranger, and said quot;gimmequot;.......so I left with the ranger.
This truck wouldnt have lasted much longer onthat lot.
well, iv only had the truck for 8 mnths and its my first vehical so i will tell you anyway
so i was searching craisglist for months on endlooking for the perfect ranger (or jeep at the time). i was looking at two cities, mine and one about 1 hr away. my dad got tired after we drove up to the 1 hr plcae twice and at the time i was still 15 but ready to buy cus of my pro lawn business the second day i stopped looking at that city, my bro(who lives there) called me and showed me the truck. he said quot;i know you love standing out and its 01+ rangerquot; and i just wand it soo bad. i called right away and the next day i wentto look at it, check engine light was on and it was egr value so i got it for 4000
I had been looking for a small pickup for about 6 months and was in no rush to buy. I wanted something to drive to my hockey games, something to move stuff in and since i can't buy a UTE in NA its the next best thing. Over those six months I ran into a couple flakes and even missed out on a 90 s10 with 21k original miles for 1500 by 5 minutes.
So i kept looking and saw a 99 ranger for 2500 on craigslist. It was owned by a nice Asian couple. I later found out it was his first car when he was in college, then he gave it to his wife and it was her first car. Needless to say it has some scrapes, scuffs and a couple character dents which his wife took credit for. It had 112k miles on it and had every service record, i offered 1800, the wife said that they were firm on price. I said that's ok the most i can offer is 2000 based on cosmetic damage and what maintenance was coming up. If you change your mind call me and walked away. I got a call the next day that we had a deal.
My 91 showed up in my driveway 2 years ago for my 16th birthday. It was my grandpas truck and he gave it to me.
My grandfather had a 98 XLT 4x4. Basically just an older style of my truck. He took it to Jiffy Lube to have them change the oil one day and they for some reason put 42psi in the tires. So he didn't know about it, was heading home in the rain and hydroplaned into the median and long story short, the truck got totaled. 3 months later he goes and picks up a 2002 XLT 4x4 for $11,000 from an old woman who took great care of it. About 2 years later, my grandfather decides he's done driving and gives me the truck, and my cousin the Honda Accord that he had(it was my grandmothers).
was driving a 91 S-10 that was modified beyond practical daily driving usage and had a bad knock. My dad found a ranger online at a used car lot so we went and looked at it, it was misadvertised as a 4x4 and was actually 2wd, so i looked at another one they had (the one i bought) . i didnt consider it at first because of its mileage (142k) but i drove it and tld them a few things that were wrong with it (that really werent) and left with it for 4k (asking 6300). fixed my S-10 knock (broken flexplate) and sold it to the used car place i bought my ranger from.
Over 3 years and over 10k later, with 197,500 on it, it is in better shape now than it has ever been
Needed a better vehicle for mileage since my '69 F100 got around 10 mpg. I bought it from the second owner. The first owner followed the manual on every single thing to do and filled out the book to around 100,000. Second owner just wanted something different.
My mom bought my 2000 from my brother-in-law with 121k on the clock in October of 2008. We got it for $1,000 which was a really good deal. Between October and March I paid my mom back the $1,000. Then I wrecked in June 09 and I put another $600-$800 into it. And ever since then the modding has been draining my pocket book.
In my opinion it looks better than it did when I bough it but then again I rebuilt the front end and I like fender flares HAHA.
I would like to believe I will have this truck at least till I leave the Coast Guard. I will need a winter beater and there is no way I will be able to afford another truck while I am paying the $1,000 a month for my 2012 Z28
bought it from a concrete yard where it was used as the golf cart for the head mechanic/manager to get around.
bought mine in early 2010, then it took a ****. and now we're here.
I bought my Ranger on Feb 6th, 2005. It had 29K on it and I bought it for $13,500. I was 19 and a freshman in college.
I bought it at Big Mike Naughton Ford. My Dad made me drive it home which was about 30miles and I had only driven a manual 1 time before that.

$1,000 a month for a vehicle? That's the monthly payment for a very nice house, at least here it is.
